Re:Brand

We’re excited to be celebrating our 25th anniversary this year by raising funds for the BC Cancer Foundation through our “Leaf a Legacy” project. Signals was founded in September 1984 which makes September 2009 the exact moment we opened our doors as a full service design firm. At that time, we were one of just a handful of firms in Vancouver. The firm was founded by Kosta Tsetsekas who remains the Principal and Creative Director of Signals.

A charity fundraiser to commemorate a silver anniversary? Well, we initially thought about throwing a party to celebrate, or sending gifts to our clients, but after some thought we realized we’d prefer to celebrate our success by sharing it with others who really need our help.

And so, the “Leaf a Legacy” project was born. Its goal is to raise money for the BC Cancer Agency and its group of talented researchers and scientists who have a lot more ideas for treatments and cures than they can fund. Some of the Signals staff have lost a loved one to cancer, and this cause is close to our heart.

It’s a simple concept, but with a special twist: John Belisle, the Associate Creative Director at Signals, has created a unique illustration of a solitary tree that will come to life as each donation adds a new leaf. Each donor who makes a contribution is invited to dedicate a leaf to a loved one, and to share their story. As the funds grow, so does the tree. New elements will be added as we go to surprise visitors who make repeat visits to the site.

The final illustration will be issued in a limited edition of just 250 prints, destined to become collector’s items, and will reflect the contributions of hundreds of donors as each one adds a new leaf to the tree.

(You can see more of John’s design work on the recently unveiled five-stamp series he co-designed with Kosta for Canada Post, showcasing Winter Olympic sports.)

John’s unique illustration is the visual centerpiece of the Leaf a Legacy campaign, and we would love your support! Join our Facebook page, follow our campaign updates on Twitter, and tell your friends and family about this great opportunity to contribute to the future health of all British Columbians.

Through the BC Cancer Foundation every cent from the Leaf a Legacy fundraising campaign goes directly to the BC Cancer Agency, the group responsible for all cancer care and research in BC.
